DAILY NANCY UPDATE #7

Greetings.

This is the seventh in a series of DAILY NANCY UPDATES I will be posting until the amazing Nancy Neufeld Callaway is in full remission and we have kicked her leukemia on its ass.

BREAKING NEWS

THIS JUST IN - from one of Nancy's skilled UCLA oncologists, Dr. Sven Devos... Nancy is the most active patient in the entire Hematology/Oncology Ward! They haven't seen anyone commit to the level of exercise that she has-- and they're extremely impressed with her progress! Guess those old Olympic training genes are still alive and well! GO NANCY!

HEADLINES

Isn't She Lovely

As impressive as the doctors and nurses at UCLA are-- it's FaceTime that's really saving our lives right now. With Nancy still on bacterial lockdown until she shakes her minor head cold-- me, the kids, and anyone else with even a hint of the sniffles, simply cannot see her in person. And in order to prevent spreading any cold germs to the other patients on the ward, all the staff and anyone else who comes in contact with Nancy for the next couple of days has to wear a full mask, gloves, and a gown. It's pretty hard on her. So thank God we can still see her beautiful face on the new iPad Pro we gave her last night. It literally makes all of our days and nights.

TODAY'S HURDLE

Joys of technology aside, this entire situation just sucks. And Nancy wants to leave her cozily decorated hospital cell and come home. We're desperate to have her here, as well. It's only been a week. But it feels like a year. So any words of encouragement you can offer to help lift her spirits would be greatly appreciated by all of us.

POSTSCRIPT

I've honestly never known anyone stronger in my life than my wife. I know she doesn't feel that way-- but her humility is just another critical part of her truly inspiring strength. And with that, there's not really anything else I can say today, except...

WE LOVE NANCY AND WE WILL NOT BE DEFEATED.

  1. Hi Nancy:
Most people would use any excuse not to exercise but you, of course, are not most people. So bike-away and build that resistance that you need. There's nobody like you -- ANYWHERE!!! Dad came to dinner last night and we had chicken parmesan, etc. and watched Hidden Figures. It was a good evening. So, all seems well out here, now we've got to make it good in there so you can come out here!!! Sending much love from Jimmy, too. xxx Sybil

  3. Buongiorno! We send all of our love and support. As we live only three minutes from UCLA, we would be happy and delighted for any day for Cosmo and Crockett to come home with us from Buckley pick up and stay at our house to do homework, hang out, have dinner etc. And depending on your planning of any particular day, we can take them to the hospital or they can stay at our house if you want to come pick them up after a hospital visit. All our love, Cristina, Devin and the Sloane Family

  4. Well I will echo my ole Prom date's sentiments...'You are all awe inspiring'...I'll ad a bit of levity here, and admit the ineptitude of my technical abilities...since I heard from Trey last week I think this is attempt 3 or 4 to actually post here...somewhere in the clouds of the internet there do lie some heartfelt words previously typed...thus my reverting to just sending Trey an email or 2...I too have an awe inspiring wife, Annie, who's phrase is Peace Love and Light…all are sent and have been in the highest doses we can legally send across state lines under the current administration...she's even offered bone marrow as her first response, completely blowing away my selfish and simple "Oh shit" out the window...Caroline too adds her prayers and on Angels' wings do they fly Nancy, may they wrap you in all that you need....Curtis Annie and Caroline (aka The Pangle's)

And Happy Birthday to Margaret! in case she sees this today!!
