DAILY NANCY UPDATE #109

Greetings.

This is the one hundred and ninth in a series of DAILY NANCY UPDATES I will be posting until the amazing Nancy Neufeld Callaway is in full remission and we have kicked her leukemia on its ass.

If you'd like to be automatically notified of updates to this blog-- just enter your email address in the window on the right beneath Nancy's picture and follow the prompts!

MONDAY REPORT

Her feet hurt... badly. They're all puffed up and red like she got a bad sunburn. Apparently, this kind of neuropathy happens to many bone marrow transplant patients after they've already gone home-- a common delayed reaction to their last heavy dose of chemotherapy. But since Nancy is still at City of Hope-- she gets to deal with swollen, painful tootsies right in the cozy confines of her hospital room.

The doctor's giving her a neuropathy drug-- along with lowering her fluid intake to decrease swelling. And other than that, we're trying to stick to just Tylenol and ice packs-- rather that hit her brain harder with any more powerful pain killers. Meanwhile, it's impacting her ability to comfortably walk-- so she's not getting as much exercise as we'd like, either.

But I shouldn't have started with the bad news. Because honestly? Here's the deal.

Aside from her aching dogs-- this was one of the best days Nancy's had since her seizure on June 27th.

She was alert and bright eyed most of the day. She was talkative, plugged into conversations with minimal confusion-- and best of all?

SHE WAS FUNNY.

She had me, Shirley, Dr. Forman, the nurses, and her visiting friend Alexa in stitches on more than one occasion today. Which was impressive and relieving and a great sign of her continuing recovery.

So while we'd genuinely appreciate your continued good vibes, kind thoughts, and healing prayers for a swift end to her current podiatric pain... we're also deeply thankful for all the times the Sunshiny Superwarrior Goddess is increasingly making us smile.

WE LOVE NANCY, and...

ALL IS WELL!
