Greetings.
This is the one hundred and sixth in a series of DAILY NANCY UPDATES I will be posting until the amazing Nancy Neufeld Callaway is in full remission and we have kicked her leukemia on its ass.

WEDNESDAY REPORT
First, let's talk about what's amazing.
Nancy not only stood up for the first time in 12 days on Tuesday-- but on Wednesday (yesterday) with the help of her physical therapists, she actually took a walk right out of her room and down the hall.
And once she worked up an appetite, we're also happy to share she had all dietary restrictions lifted, and is now allowed to eat anything she wants.
What's more, she's becoming more and more talkative every day.
But the Sunshiny Superwarrior Goddess still has some important hurdles to clear.
Even though she can't quite speak to it yet-- I can literally feel her growing frustration over being in the hospital. She's been told a good number of times now about why she's still there. But the short term memory loss she's experiencing (which is typical after the type of seizure she suffered) has thus far prevented her from remembering it. And even though that may be a blessing in many respects-- it's also increasingly confusing for her. So that's led to some occasional mood swings, which are pretty atypical, if you know the usually effervescent Nancy.
Again-- the doctors keep telling us this is all temporary. And depending on what you're talking to Nancy about or when-- you might not notice she's having any issues at all. But the truth is, her incredible mind still hasn't completely come back online and she's still trying hard to sort out just what's happened to her. Sometimes when we're talking-- I can almost picture a rainbow wheel like the one on a computer, spinning right above her head as she struggles to make sense of it all.
But until she does-- we're just gonna stay at City of Hope and do the very best we can to keep building up her mental and physical strength.
Meanwhile, if you've been trying to contact her via phone, email, or text-- please know that she's not quite ready to engage with you in that way just yet. But we really appreciate you channeling that impulse into any good vibes, kind thoughts, and heartfelt prayers you could send her direction for a full and swift recovery.
WE LOVE NANCY, and...
ALL IS WELL!

ReplyDeleteSuch encouraging news.
Still praying and thinking of all good thoughts. Glad there is constant progress including impatience. That shows she is not only invested in healing quickly but returning to her old self!!! Right? Prayers to you and hoping she continues on the fastest road to health and little side effect or pain. She and you all have endured way too much. Sending love.
ReplyDeleteThank your for keeping us posted, Trey. So glad the updates show no signs of cancer. Nancy's a warrior!
