SPECIAL UPDATE - NANCY'S TRANSPLANT

THIS IS A SPECIAL UPDATE ON NANCY'S BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT

The incredible deed is done.

At approximately 1:40pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, Nancy Neufeld Callaway received somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 million freshly harvested bone marrow cells from a 20 year old, anonymous Israeli male donor in a short but successful transplant at City of Hope Hospital.

Doesn't look like much, does it? Well, according to her doctors-- this magical bag of lifeblood is more than enough to get the job done.

Including pre-medications, the entire process only took about 45 minutes from start to finish. Like most patients, Nancy could taste "garlic" as the transplant began (caused by a preservative added to the marrow) and she was a little bit nauseous for a couple of minutes. But she kept bravely breathing through the entire process-- and before we knew it-- it was over.

So now, through the absolute kindness of a stranger (whom we really hope to meet and thank in person some day), this remarkable woman has been given the best shot known to medical science at ridding her of acute lymphoblastic leukemia for the rest of her life.

Last night, while listening to a guided healing meditation, the Sunshiny Superwarrior Goddess imagined herself in this sketch, being helped back to perfect health by her new Israeli Guardian Angel.

And now, that's what all of us should visualize as well.

So what happens next?

Well, she'll be very closely monitored here at City of Hope for the next month, and treated for any signs of rejection. Then, once she's given the hopeful green light to return home, we'll have to carefully watch her there, as well. There will also be plenty of return visits to COH for all kinds of tests.

The doctors say it's usually around 100 days after a transplant that you suddenly start to feel like your old self again.

And then?

Then, G-d willing, the most extraordinarily brave wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend in the world will go on with her precious life and put this all behind her.

Right now, she's taking an extremely well-deserved snooze. But stay tuned for further updates as they're available. And thanks from the bottom of our hearts for your beautiful outpouring of love, support, thoughts, and prayers on her behalf.

WE LOVE NANCY, and...

ALL IS WELL!

  1. I cannot adequately express how thrilled I am that she has her Angel Donor's marrow flowing thru her and making its new home. Trey, you are a saint, as we all know this takes its toll on you as well. And to our NewCell Nancy, you are a rockstar, and one of the strongest, most positive and loving people I know. Happy Birthday, dear friend. Sending love
